Brenda and I kept close tabs on the social scene on the ship. We knew of every activity and planned on attending most of them. One of the contests was a costume contest. Brenda and I decided we were going to dress as Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield.
Neither of us were blond's so we decided the first thing we needed to do was to make blond wigs. We used yellow crepe paper and grouped the paper strands to look similar to a wig.
When it came time to dress, we each chose skin tight skirts that we already had in our closets, along with our fanciest high heels. We each wore one of our own sweaters, but since we were not well endowed in the chest area, we pumped it up by placing balloons in the appropriate areas. We bobby pinned our crepe paper wigs to our head, put on our sunglasses and some rhinestone jewelry, grabbed a martini glass filled with 7-Up and an olive, and wiggled our way up the aisle toward the stage. Brenda had a beauty contest type sash diagonally across her chest that said "Marilyn" and I had a sash that said "Jayne".
The audience loved our antics, and we hammed it up. When we arrived on stage the cruise director/emcee talked to us for a minute as we told some really awful jokes (i.e., "We are bosom buddies"). The audience continued to roar, and we lapped it up. Just when we thought we were ready to leave the stage, the emcee pulled out a pin and popped one balloon on each of us. We were both surprised and laughed at ourselves as everyone laughed with us. That made us the hit of the evening.
It was a contest, but once again we were placed in the "children's" category, and there was a very cute young girl, about 4 or 5 years old, who won the prize. But our antics did get us plenty of attention and we were a hit.
