Music was becoming more and more popular to the younger generation. It was also becoming more and more important in the lives of most teenagers. As for myself, I was always listening to my record player or the radio. If a favorite singer of mine was going to appear on television, I'd make sure I saw him. Music was one of the most important things in my life.
Some of my girl friends at school decided to form a singing group. It wasn't long after seeing The Five Satins that we began our rehearsals. Our first song was Blue Moon. I sang alto, and tried to stay in the background whenever we sang. We weren't bad but we certainly weren't going to be stars.
We spent the latter part of our lunch hour everyday rehearsing. We called ourselves the Harmonettes. Since I was singing with other girls I was able to carry off the singing without sounding too bad. We never managed to sing anywhere except around the school, but we had fun and got a lot of attention from our peers. We actually became popular.
