There continued to be well known entertainers who would come and perform at the base outdoor theater. The next big show that I attended was a country and western show. All of the big country star's were scheduled to come, including Ferlin Husky, Minnie Pearl, Red Foley, Faron Young, Flatt & Scruggs and more.
Once again I had a front row seat and I could partially see back stage from the angle where I was sitting.
The entertainers were all from the Grand Ole' Opry. They put on a show very different from the rock n' roll show I'd seen before. Most, but not all, of the performers were very inebriated, and continued drinking during the show. Some of them were almost falling down from drunkenness. The jokes and banter with the audience was very crude, too crude for a sixteen year old girl, but the target audience was the military men and women serving in Barber's Point.
The singing was all great and the military people did seem to enjoy the show, including the crass jokes. It was a success. The Opry stars were all kind enough to sign autographs following the show and I was able to get many signatures.
