With Bob overseas and a new baby in the home, Christmas was a chore for my Mother. She still was unable to drive, and had to rely on her friends and family for transportation. We didn't have a lot of money that Christmas, and my Mother couldn't afford to buy us a Christmas tree. So my friend Patty and I waited until Christmas Eve afternoon and walked over to the local Christmas Tree lot and we were able to get a free Christmas tree.
That year, Christmas tree's were often painted pink, blue or white. It was very fashionable to have a painted tree. So Patty and I chose a blue Christmas tree, and carried it back to my house. We had it decorated before dinner time, and the tree looked like it had been in it's spot for weeks. We had chosen a tall tree, very attractive, and since it was blue, it was very "in".
It ended up being a great Christmas, spent with family and friends. Our blue Christmas tree was the hit of the day.
