My friend Darla developed a crush on a boy from our school. His name was Dan and he played Little League baseball for a team called the Lions, so she talked me into going to a game with her. It just so happened that there was another boy on the same team as Dan whom I thought was kind of cute. He also went to our school and had brown hair and eyes. His name was Ronnie. I began watching him and soon Darla and I were attending all of the Lions games.
Several times a week Darla and I would head to the Little League fields to watch the Lions games. We would primp and preen before heading to the games, making sure we looked good enough for the boys to notice us. After we arrived, we would sit in the bleachers and Darla would cheer for Dan and I would cheer for Ronnie. There was a concession stand and we would always have a drink and sometimes a hot dog. If one of the boys made a good defensive play or got a hit, Darla and I would jump up and down and scream loudly. A home run would set off a 'Tween frenzy.
As for Dan and Ronnie, I'm not sure they even realized that Darla and I were their number one fans, or if they were even aware that we were at the games. The didn't seem to notice us, rarely looking toward us. But Darla and I didn't seem to mind. We were in Little League heaven.
