Life slowly returned to normal as I continued to heal. Over time I became stronger and stronger. The "Quarantined" sign was removed from our front door and I was able to socialize with my friends once again. But every so often I would get terrible leg pains, cramps in my lower legs. My Mother would say they were growing pains.
I continued to have skin problems. My legs were very dry and scaly. Strangely, sunlight seemed to help cure my skin condition, and make my skin appear normal. So I became a sun worshiper. I was at the local public pool or the beach several times a week. When I wasn't at the pool or beach, I would just spend time outside wearing shorts. I became tan and my skin cleared.
I swam that summer, went to Little League games and cheered on my team, the Lions, rode my bicycle and played croquet with my friends. It was a great summer.
