After what seemed like being sick forever, we slowly began to heal. My siblings healed faster than I; I seemed to take forever to be well again. I couldn't go to school yet, so the school sent my work home and I was home schooled for the remainder of the school year.
Remarkeably, my Mother didn't become ill, and her pregnancy continued without problems. My sister Elaine, who brought the Scarlet Fever home, had the lightest case and was running around again in a short time.
I missed my Junior High School Graduation due to illness. I tried to help my Mother with household tasks like vacuuming, but it was just too much for me. And I had been in my house without my friends for so long that I had become very lonely. Finally, I felt well enough to make a telephone call to a school friend. When she answered the phone, I said "Hi", and she responded: "Ruby, I thought you were dead!"
