Word spread very quickly about the death of Susan Rothschild. There were very few children playing outdoors in the following days. The military was searching for a killer--the killer of little Susan Rothschild.
There was a medical examination to determine the cause of death. Susan had large bruises on and around her face and neck. The medical professionals did an autopsy which determined she had not been raped or sexually molested. She had been strangled just minutes before her father found her.
The investigators were searching for a motive. It was determined that Susan died by strangulation. It was believed that the killer had intended on raping Susan but he was frightened away. It was decided that the motive was intended rape.
There was a massive search for a killer. It would be less than a week before an arrest would be made.
