The military was usually very good about providing recreational activities for dependent children. In Tokyo, I attended a day program that provided arts and crafts and other activities. I would come and go to the activities on a military bus. One day, after attending the arts and crafts program I boarded the military bus to come home. I was very tired that day and soon after beginning our way home, I fell asleep on the bus. I have a reputation for sleeping soundly and that particular day was no different. I slept well. After sleeping for a long time, I was awakened by the bus driver, a young military man, who told me we had reached the end of the line. I had missed my bus stop and he wanted to know where I lived so he could take me home. I was scared, and not too sure I could tell the bus driver where to take me. Luckily, he was a very nice young man and treated me with kindness. We had gone a long way past my original destination and I sat straight upright for the entire way home. Finally, we approached the bus stop where I was supposed to disembark earlier in the day. My Mother and Bob were standing waiting for me. I was really glad to see them, but very embarrassed by my Rip Van Winkle act. They looked very relieved to see me, and after thanking the bus driver, my parents and I went home.
